Massage did not begin with the modern spa. Long before today’s professional industry, people in different places used forms of rubbing, pressing, oiling, anointing, bathing, and physical tending within their own medical, athletic, family, communal, and sometimes ritual contexts.
THE HUMAN THREAD
Hands have long been among humanity’s most immediate instruments of care.
The histories below are connected by intentional touch—not merged into one universal tradition. Each belongs to its own people, language, knowledge system, and period.
Care through touch came before an industry.
The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health notes that massage has appeared across many Eastern and Western cultures and was among the early ways people tried to relieve pain.
Tuina has its own lineage and standards.
Historical scholarship traces Chinese massage traditions and exchange with Indian practices before the eighth century. Modern World Health Organization materials treat tuina as a distinct practice with its own training and safety benchmarks—not as a generic label for every kind of massage.
Abhyanga belongs to a specific medical tradition.
Ayurvedic sources describe abhyanga as oil massage or anointing within Ayurveda. It is named here respectfully as part of that tradition—not borrowed as a decorative spa term and not presented as a HealingTouch service.
Rubbing and oil appeared in documented physical-care contexts.
Scholarly study of ancient Greek writing documents rubbing and oil in athletic and physical-care settings. That record represents one historical context; it does not stand in for every culture’s relationship with touch.

Any energy-aware element is optional, requires your clear consent, and does not require a particular spiritual belief.

01St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands appointments+
Requests may include individual or couples experiences; villas, vacation rentals, hotels, and resorts; select beach and private beachfront settings; and family, friend, retreat, group, birthday, or wellness-centered gatherings.
Approximately 24 hours’ notice is preferred, and the general latest-start guideline is around 6 PM. Approved same-day requirements or fees may apply.
02St. John & collaborative support+
St. John requests are personally reviewed, with a preference for two or more guests and approximately 48 hours’ notice. Individual requests may be considered case by case.
When appropriate and available, trusted licensed professionals may support additional therapist coordination, traditional two-therapist couples sessions, or larger groups. HealingTouch remains the primary point of contact for its own inquiries, and every collaborator, setting, and arrangement is confirmed directly before it is represented as available.
03Beach & private beachfront experiences+
Select beach experiences may be considered where professional services are permitted and the location is suitable.
Requests are reviewed for permission, weather, wind, tide, shade, privacy, draping, access, equipment transport, clean setup, guest count, and therapist availability. An indoor or covered alternative may be recommended.
04Water Island & select Tortola requests+
Water Island experiences are primarily considered for coordinated groups of five or more guests and require advance travel planning.
Select Tortola arrangements may be considered with sufficient notice and remain subject to transportation, border and entry requirements, all applicable licensing and work-authorization requirements, group size, availability, and final confirmation.

Coordinated couples experience
Both guests are settled on separate tables during one shared appointment. Hands-on care is thoughtfully alternated, and the structure and timing are explained before confirmation.
Traditional simultaneous couples massage
Each guest has a dedicated practitioner and both massages occur at the same time. Availability and any separate quote depend on professional coordination.
Groups, retreats & gatherings
Trusted licensed professionals may be coordinated when the guest count requires additional support. Include the approximate group size in the request.
Chair Massage
A professional seated format may be considered for eligible offices, villas, hospitality experiences, celebrations, retreats, and approved events. Details and pricing are confirmed only after review.
Private Stay Wellness Plan
Coordinate possible massage times across an eligible villa or longer stay. Frequency, guest count, travel, availability, and price are built around the actual request—no package rate is implied.
Group and repeat-care planning
Travelers, couples, families, repeat clients, retreats, and hospitality teams can ask for a coordinated plan. Practitioner support and every total remain subject to confirmation.
Timeless Specials
A future space for genuinely approved seasonal or limited arrangements. No discount, rate, availability, or offer is active merely because the structure exists.
Cleanliness, safety & professional care
Comfort and clarity are part of the service.
Every arrangement is approached with cleanliness, privacy, appropriate professional draping, transparent communication, and location-aware safety.
Prepared for each guest
Separate prepared tables when applicable, fresh linens and towels, clean service materials, careful hand hygiene, and properly cleaned reusable tools and frequently touched equipment.
Mobile appointment standards
Each request is personally reviewed. Solo adult-male requests are arranged only when an adult woman remains present throughout. Women may request individual sessions. Setting-specific arrangements are explained privately when relevant.
Youth massage safeguards
Requests for clients ages 6–17 require advance parent or legal-guardian review, the guardian’s consent, and that responsible adult’s presence throughout. Service fit and any additional requirements are confirmed before booking.
Self-pay / private-pay care
These are private-pay wellness services, not medical treatment. Before you book, you will receive the full price and any steps needed to confirm your appointment.
